Experiential Learning
In the Guy D. Newman Honors Academy, we believe sincerely that some of life’s most important lessons simply cannot be learned in the traditional classroom. That is why we require each Honors Academy student to complete an Experiential Learning Foundation prior to graduation.
Honors Academy members may demonstrate an Experiential Learning credit (ACA 4000) by any of the following:
* Gain an immersive cultural experience by a long-semester study abroad opportunity. Recent Honors Academy students have spent semesters in Uganda, Costa Rica, Austria, and the U.K. (with HPU’s London Semester program). Through HPU’s Study Abroad partnerships with organizations like the CCCU (BestSemester) and CGE/CAPA, Honors Academy students can learn-by-doing at just about any location in the world. See HPU’s Study Abroad page for information about these and other programs.
* Put your academic skills to use in real-world scenarios in a co-curricular program. HPU boasts three award-winning and highly competitive programs, each attracting students with distinct academic and professional interests. See pages on Moot Court, Model United Nations, and Student Speaker Bureau (speech/debate) for more information.
* Gain practical, in-depth career experience by earning three semester hours of academic credit for approved internship(s).
Each of these tremendous opportunities offers students the chance to put the Honors Academy’s motto into practice: Facing the Future with Faith and Knowledge.
